Decision Making at Work

Workshop Aim

Supervisors are faced with a variety of different decisions that they have to make on a daily basis. The effectiveness of their decisions can make or break their success in this position. This module enhances the supervisor's ability to handle the day-to-day decisions s/he has to make at work. The module emphasises the importance conscious decision making as opposed to on-the-spur-of-the-moment decisions.

Competency Outputs

  • At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Analyse the situation and gather all the information needed to make a decision
  • Use a structured decision-making process to handle day-to-day work decisions
  • Generate and analyse alternative courses of action place
  • Anticipate consequences of implementing solutions and avoid negative results

  • Effective decisions - their nature and source
  • A five step decision-making process
  • Situational analysis
  • Identifying constraints
  • Evaluating alternative solutions

Methodology

The methodology used in this module includes interactive presentations; group discussions; and skills practices in decision-making.

Target Audience: Employees who need supervisory training.
Module Duration: 5 - 8 hours, dependent on the level of the group
