Communicating for Results

Workshop Aim

Effective communication is the foundation of good supervision. The supervisor needs to be able to interact with different individuals within and external to their team on a daily basis. This module develops the supervisor's communication skills and enables them to apply a basic model of communication. The module emphasises the importance of effective communications and highlights how poor communication can prevent the supervisor from achieving their objectives. The focus is on using appropriate communication in varying situations.

Competency Outputs

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Understand and discuss their role in communicating for results as linked to their leadership role at work
  • Plan for interactions using and adapting the basic model for communication
  • Communicate in every day situations, both individual and group, using the basic model
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of their interactions using the model and checklist and identify areas for improvement

  • Role and responsibilities in communicating
  • Personal communication style
  • Basic model of communication
  • Planning for and evaluating interactions
  • Communicating in different situations, both pre-planned and impromptu

Methodology

The methodology used in this module includes a model presentation and group discussion; and skills practices in communicating in different situations.

Target Audience: Employees who need supervisory training.
Module Duration: 5 - 8 hours, dependent on the level of the group
