Communication for Results

Workshop Aim

Effective communication is essential to teamwork and interaction in today's culturally diverse work environment. Employees need to be able to interact with individuals at varying levels within, and external, to their team on a daily basis. This module develops the employees' communication skills and enables them to apply a basic model of communication. The module emphasises the importance of effective communications and highlights how poor communication can prevent individuals from achieving their objectives. The focus is on using appropriate communication in varying situations.

Competency Outputs

  • Understand and discuss their role and responsibilities in relation to communication
  • Identify and overcome their main barriers to communication
  • Communicate in every day situations, both individual and group, using the basic model

  • Role and responsibilities in communicating
  • Identifying and preventing barriers to communication
  • Personal communication style and developmental objectives
  • Basic communication principles and guidelines
  • Basic model of communication
  • Planning for a discussion

Methodology

The methodology used in this module includes a model presentation and group discussion; self-analysis; communication games and exercises, skills practices in communicating in different situations; and application planning.

Target Audience: This course is designed for entry level and administrative employees.
Module Duration: 5 - 8 hours, dependent on the level of the group. A full day is required when the group is inexperienced, or has had little previous experience to these concepts.
