The Role of the Leader

Workshop Aim

The effective manager or supervisor understands their role in the organisation and the scope and responsibilities of the position. This introductory module explores the nature of management and encourages a mindset where the leader takes ownership and responsibility for the tasks and function that they need to perform. The module emphasises the transition that they need to make from non-management to management and explores the changing paradigms in relation to leadership.

Competency Outputs

  • Identify their key areas of responsibility
  • Describe the scope and meaning of their key areas, including tasks and standards
  • Differentiate their responsibilities from their manager's responsibilities and agree on these differences with their manager.

Topics / content covered during the module

  • The leadership role and changing paradigms
  • The management structure of the company and the supervisor's role in relation to the manager
  • Supervisory and management tasks and responsibilities
  • Authority vs. responsibility
  • Key responsibility areas, objectives and standards

Methodology

The methodology used in this module includes self-check, analysis and reflection; interactive presentations; group discussions; skills practices.
 
Target Audience:  Employees who need leadership training.
Module Duration:   5 - 8 hours, dependent on the level of the group
