Assertiveness Skills

Workshop Aim

Today's changing workplace requires all employees to participate proactively in order to contribute to their organisation's success. This workshop enables individuals to identify the need for and develop assertive behaviours in their own work place. The focus of the modules is on enhancing the individual's appropriate use of assertive behaviour and moving them towards personal mastery. The aim is to enabling the individual to understand and apply practical techniques of assertive behaviour in his or her day-to-day work environment.

Competency Outputs

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the development of their own assertiveness
  • Take personal accountability for the outcome of their interactions Identify their own inhibitions, or barriers, to being assertive and develop methods of overcoming these
  • Identify situations in which their assertiveness will provide a positive outcome
  • Use assertive behaviours appropriately to impact positively on their workplace interactions

  • Exploring Assertiveness:
          • Building an assertiveness model
          • Understanding the factors and issues involved in assertiveness
          • Myths and barriers surrounding the use of assertiveness
          • Characteristics of assertive people
  • Exploring the now - gaining insight into the individuals current status and use of assertiveness
  • Assertiveness techniques and behaviours
  • Reprogramming old patterns of behaviour

Methodology

The methodology used in this module includes; self check analysis and reflection; group discussions; simulations and individual real-time exercises.

Target Audience: Employees who need leadership training.
